21st Annual Taste the Future Goes Green with Goal of Zero Waste
While delectable cuisine will take center stage as the main event at the annual Taste the Future, a new green initiative is a featured attraction this year. The showcase of culinary masterpieces includes savory samples from more than 50 of central Ohio’s finest establishments.
To better serve the community and lessen the environmental impact of holding such a large event over a thousand people, the goal this year is zero waste. Significant changes include use of plastic eco products made with sugarcane or corn that are 100% compostable. They include all white-colored food plates and utensils and all cups supplied at drink stations. Although they look and feel like plastic – they are not.
Across campus special disposal stations and volunteer assistants will be available to help patrons properly dispose of paper, food, dinnerware, plastic bottles, glass and aluminum in receptacles for both compostable and recyclable items.
Tickets for Taste the Future are $100 each. All proceeds fund scholarships and special projects at Columbus State Community College. This adult-only event will be held on the campus at 550 East Spring Street, Columbus on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. Set up for the event will begin that morning.
